Forest School

At Woodgate Primary Academy, we believe that some of the most memorable and meaningful learning experiences happen outdoors. Our Forest School provision gives children the opportunity to explore, discover and learn in a natural environment, making the most of our extensive school field and the beautiful surroundings of our local area. We are fortunate to have access to an environment that inspires curiosity, creativity and a love of the natural world.

Forest School is a child-centred approach to learning that encourages children to develop confidence, independence and resilience through hands-on experiences outdoors. Through a range of practical activities, pupils are encouraged to investigate, problem-solve, take appropriate risks and work collaboratively with others. Regular outdoor learning opportunities help children develop a deeper understanding of the environment while building important life skills that support learning across the curriculum.

Sessions may include den building, nature investigations, team challenges, creative projects using natural materials, wildlife observation and seasonal activities linked to the world around us. Children are encouraged to explore, ask questions and develop their own ideas, helping them to become confident, resourceful and reflective learners.

Forest School provides benefits far beyond the classroom. It supports physical wellbeing, communication skills, teamwork, emotional development and a sense of responsibility for the environment. Most importantly, it allows children to experience the joy of learning outdoors, whatever the season, while creating lasting memories and developing a lifelong appreciation of nature.

At Woodgate, Forest School is an important part of our commitment to providing a rich, broad and engaging curriculum that helps every child grow in confidence and fulfil their potential.
